M ansukhbhai Prajapati’s childhood memories in Gujarat are filled with images of his elders busying themselves with traditional clay pot making. But the process made most of them sick with breathing issues and so the family decided to quit the field.

Years later, after trying his hands at various jobs, Mansukh took a loan of Rs 50,000 and got into the art of making traditional clay items. Along with implementing new methods, which made no compromise on the health of artisans, he also innovated more items.

His company called Mitticool has produced 250 different clay products including filters, pressure cookers and tawas.

In 2010, Mansukh was also mentioned in Forbes’ seven most powerful rural Indian entrepreneurs list whose inventions are changing the lives of the people across the country.

It took him around five years to develop the refrigerator and he also acquired a patent for it. The innovator is now busy in his work to make a clay house which stays cool without an air conditioner.
