Low-cost electronic pcb-based modules bought on-line have revolutionised what can be made quickly, even at home. Home Ups Inverter With Charger
This I whole-heartedly believe, but even one of my strong faith was not ready for finding out about the EGS002 – a complete control sub-system for sinewave power inverters.
Warning to the initiated: voltages in and around power inverters are mains-like, and can kill.
EGS002 is based around EGmicro’s EG8010 – a sinewave inverter control chip (data sheet can be downloaded from this page) and includes a couple of Infineon (IR2110) high-side and low-side driver ICs to drive an external mosfet bridge.
Add a (carefully designed!) power stage, and you have an inverter – tvixen has shared such an inverter design in a GitHub repository here
Hats off to all concerned

With any reference design from app notes, or eval boards, or open source designs, I always wonder to what extent appropriate safety measures have been followed (standards, creepage and clearance, use of solid insulation, etc). I’m also wondering why that big electrolytic across the transformer has not gone fut yet.
Afternoon DB To be fair to the module, it is leaving all of that to the rest of the design 🙂 Although, maybe it has decreased the barrier of entry to over-confident folks with too little knowledge…
I wonder if this is just an indication of how common the micro-inverters for solar panels are? How much longer until it’s all on one piece of silicon??
Good morning Mr Kurt Interesting speculation on micro-inverters being the motivation. It seems that some module makers just hit the spot and come up something a bit quirky which ‘goes viral’, as it were, amongst makers.
